The Whitney Bank Sign, and Other New Orleans That Ends Up in Our Shop

Nobody made this for a collector. “Whitney National Bank of New Orleans — where most people bank.” That sign hung somewhere in this city for decades, watched people cash checks, and then one day it came through our door.

That’s most of what’s good in here. Not the stuff someone manufactured to be collectible — the stuff that was just around, doing a job, until it wasn’t.

New Orleans throws off more of this than most cities. Old businesses, old houses, families who’ve been in the same place four generations. When something finally moves, it moves through a shop like ours.

You can’t order that. You can only wait for it and recognize it when it shows up.

Come see what’s in this week — have a look at the junk, or find us here. Saturday and Sunday, 11 to 5, at the end of South St. Patrick Street.
